Hello, today I want to talk about the Law of Attraction and non-duality. I occasionally see people trying to teach both, but they are not very compatible. Of course, they are not entirely incompatible either, but in non-duality, the whole idea of awakening and liberation is about seeing through the illusions of the mind and freeing oneself from ignorance. It is essentially seeing through the ego, the “me,” and realizing there is no separation, no “other.”
Most people who talk about the Law of Attraction are trying to attract good things into their lives or manifest certain things. They are attempting to change something about themselves. However, this reinforces the sense of “me.” It reinforces the illusion rather than helping to see through it. While it is possible to gain greater mastery over the illusion and manifest things, similar to the concept of “cities” or spiritual powers discussed in India, this ability to manifest can be a trap. It reinforces the feeling of “me” and the accomplishments and gains one has achieved, making it harder to let go of that sense of self.
So, there is a bit of a mismatch between the teachings of the Law of Attraction and non-duality. The Law of Attraction can help in gaining mastery over manifesting and altering the illusion, but it cannot help in seeing through the illusion and achieving awakening and liberation. In non-duality, the focus is on seeing through the illusion.
I must mention that I never studied the Law of Attraction much until recently. It was only a year or two ago that I read my first Abraham Hicks book. I was looking for something to read, and my wife had a few books, so I decided to give it a try. One piece that resonated with me and aligned with what I was contemplating and working on was the concept of joy. In the Law of Attraction, joy is part of the emotional guidance system. When you feel negative and down, you tend to attract more negativity. The Law of Attraction emphasizes increasing the vibration of your thoughts and staying positive.
In non-duality, after awakening, I find that part of the focus is on embodying joy. I often talk about enjoyment and actively bringing appreciation to what is around you. This can serve as a doorway to increasing joy in life. I have found that actively appreciating what is as it is, and consciously trying to appreciate, leads to more joy. It acts as a catalyst for higher energy and vibration. By staying on the positive side and attracting more positive things, you are somewhat aligning with the concepts of the Law of Attraction.
However, in non-duality, the pursuit is not about improving or enhancing one’s life. It is simply about being joyful, expressing that joy in the world, and increasing love, truth, and harmony around oneself. So, while there may be some alignment between non-duality and the Law of Attraction, especially regarding the principles of positivity and vibrational alignment, the focus is different. Non-duality seeks to see through the illusion, whereas the Law of Attraction often revolves around personal manifestations and desires.
These are just some of my thoughts. I haven’t been a big student of the Law of Attraction or Abraham Hicks, but I have delved more into non-duality and Advaita Vedanta. I hope you find some value in these insights.
